Cats
Your queens, studs, and retired cats. Profiles, photos, health records, and the public/private toggle.
The Cats page (/admin/animals (/admin/animals in your admin)) is where you manage every cat — queens, studs, and retired cats. Each card shows the cat's name, primary photo, and public/hidden state.
Required fields
Just two:
- Name
- Sex (female / male)
Everything else can be added later, or never. We deliberately don't lock you out for missing data.
Optional fields
- Registered name — show name. Italicized on the public profile.
- Breed, color, DOB
- Registration number — TICA #abc123 etc.
- Status — Active / Retired / Deceased. Retired shows on the Retired filter; Deceased shows under "In memory" with a softened tone.
- Titles — free text. ("CH, GC, etc.")
- Sire / Dam name — free text. Not linked to other cats — these are just labels for the public profile.
- Notes — rich text, public on the profile.
Photos
Each cat has its own gallery. The first photo (sortOrder 0) is the public profile cover. Drag to reorder. Photos have alt text — fill it in if you care about accessibility (we strongly recommend it).
Health records
The Health records section on a cat's edit page lets you upload PDFs (HCM, PKD, etc.). Mark each one public to show it on the cat's public profile under a DNA Verified badge. The badge is auto-derived — set when at least one record is public.
The public/private toggle
At the bottom of the form: Make this cat public. Off by default. Public cats:
- appear in the Featured Cats strip on your home page
- show in the Our Cats listing
- get their own profile page at
/our-cats/[slug]
A private cat is fully hidden — no profile page, no listing card.
Slugs
The public URL slug auto-derives from the cat's name. Renaming a cat updates the slug; old URLs 301-redirect, so links you've shared keep working.
